Brendan Howlin

Brendan Howlin (Irish Ó Breandán Huilin, born May 9, 1956 in Wexford, County Wexford ) is an Irish politician of the Irish Labour Party and is located since 1987 in the Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament.

Life

After attending schools in Wexford and his education at the Christian Brothers in Wexford and at St Patrick 's College, Drumcondra, Dublin, Howlin worked as a primary school teacher. 1981 Howlin began his political career as a member of the City Council of Wexford. In November 1982 Howlin failed in the elections to the 24th Dáil Éireann, but was nominated by the Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald to the 17th Seanad Éireann. In the elections of 1987 he finally succeeded in gaining the Dáil Éireann. Howlin in 1987 elected Labour Party Chief Whip. This party had Howlin position he held until 1993 when he was appointed Minister of Health. After breaking the coalition with the Fianna Fáil Howlin was environment minister in the coalition government of the Irish Labour Party with Fine Gael and Democratic Left in December 1994. Within the party candied Howlin unsuccessfully for the party leadership of the Labour Party in 1987 against Ruairi Quinn, and 2002 after the resignation Quinns against Pat Rabbitte.
