Brendan Smith (ice hockey)
Brendan Smith ( born February 8, 1989 in Mimico, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player standing since 2010 with the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League under contract on their farm team Grand Rapids Griffins runs in parallel in the American Hockey League. His brother Reilly Smith is also a professional hockey player. His brother Rory Smith is a professional lacrosse player.
Career
Brendan Smith began his career as a hockey player in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he was active from 2005 to 2007 for the Wexford Raiders and the St. Michael's Buzzers. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2007 in the first round than a total of 27 players from the Detroit Red Wings. First, however, he spent three years at the University of Wisconsin, for their hockey team he played in parallel in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. As a player at the University of Wisconsin he received several individual awards.
From the 2010/11 season, Smith was employed by Detroit 's farm team Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League. There he was able to convince at first and was elected in his first year in professional hockey in the AHL All- Rookie Team. During the 2011/12 season the Canadians gave for the Detroit Red Wings made his debut in the National Hockey League, where he in 14 NHL games, scoring one goal and six assists. The majority of the playing time he spent but again with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. The shortened because of a lockout season 2012/13 he also began with the Griffins in the AHL. After the start of the NHL season but was called by the Detroit Red Wings in their NHL squad.
