Brennersee

The Brennersee lies about 1.15 km north of the Brenner Pass at 1,311 meters above sea level. With an area of approximately 5.5 hectares, it is the largest lake of the Wipptal. The lake can be reached from via the motorway A 13 or by local train from Innsbruck.

Although the lake is released principally for swimming, the water is heated even in summer little more than 12 ° C. In addition, the lake is very shady, which makes it cool in the vicinity. The Sill supplies the lake with fresh water and at the same time drained him. The cold water fluctuates between water quality class I to II and houses various carp and trout species. A carpet of algae at the base colors the water mostly jade green.

On Brennersee the same troop of the community Gries am Brenner is located. Today, it is mainly formed from the hotel Brenner Pass. Just off of the lake, towards the pass, is the stop Brennersee ( ⊙ 47.01383333333311.5084722222221372 ) of the Brenner railway.
