Brenthonne

Brenthonne is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Brenthonne is located at 555 m above sea level. M., about halfway between Thonon -les- Bains and Annemasse, 13 km southwest of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Bas -Chablais east of Foron, at the northern foot of the pass, crossing the Col de Saxel.

The area of ​​8.38 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bas -Chablais and the adjacent foothills. The northern part of the municipal area is located in a wide valley that is drained to Lake Geneva by the Foron and its tributaries to the north. The area ranges in the extensive forests of the Bois de Savigny. To the south extends the municipality floor via an initially smooth, later steep and densely wooded hillside up to the heights in the range of the Col de Saxel. Here is 1000 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Brenthonne.

History

Traces of the Roman period indicate that the area around Brenthonne was inhabited very early. For the first time the name Brenthonne appears towards the end of the 12th century in the documents.

Attractions

The oldest parts of the church, which was changed several times in the course of time, date from the 13th and 15th centuries. East of the village stands the Château d' Avully, which was built in the 12th century and its medieval appearance with a drawbridge, a mighty keep and towers has largely maintained in the Savoyard style.

Population

With 927 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Brenthonne one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous growth of the population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Brenthonne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the environment or in Thonon -les- Bains.

The village is located on the connecting road D903, which runs from Saint- Cergues directly to Thonon -les- Bains. Further road links exist with Fessy.
