Brenton Broadstock

Brenton Thomas Broad floor ( born December 12, 1952 in Melbourne) is an Australian composer.

Life

Broad Stock was born into a family that clung to the Salvation Army. He studied history, politics and music studies at Monash University in Melbourne. Later he studied composition and music theory with Donald Friend at the University of Memphis and Peter Sculthorpe at the University of Sydney. In 1987 he received his Doctor of Music.

From 1982 to 2006 he taught in Melbourne, most recently as professor of composition. In 1988 he was a fellow of the Civitella Ranieri Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation at the Bellagio Center in Italy. 1990 his second symphony the Tribune was presented the international Compositeurs UNESCO. In 1999 he was a visiting professor at Indiana University Bloomington. His work Gates of Day was played in 2001 more than 10,000 guests on the occasion of the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts. 2008 rang his music at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. In 2009 he was Composer in Residence at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

His compositions were, inter alia, represented at Berlin Biennale, Darmstadt Summer Courses, Musica Viva and the BBC Proms.
