Bret Hedican

Bret Michael Hedican ( born August 10, 1970 in Saint Paul, Minnesota ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who during his playing career 1991-2009 for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks played in the National Hockey League. He is married to the U.S. Figure Skating Olympic Champion Kristi Yamaguchi.

Career

The 1.88 m tall defender started his career in the team of the St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, a league game in the operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. NHL Entry Draft 1988 Links shooter was selected as 198 in the tenth round of the St. Louis Blues ( drafted ).

In March 1992, Hedican was the first time for the Blues in the NHL on the ice, after a few weeks later, he scored his first goal in the top North American professional league. In the 1992/93 season commuted the defender between St. Louis and their farm team, the Peoria Rivermen of the International Hockey League. From the following season Hedican finally belonged to the tribe of the Blues squad, in March 1994 he was transferred to an exchange transaction with multiple players on the Vancouver Canucks.

In January 1999, Hedican was issued jointly with Pavel Bure and Brad Ference and among other things, for Ed Jovanovski, Dave Gagner and Kevin Weekes to the Florida Panthers, where he graduated in the 1999/00 season his 500th NHL game.

After four seasons of Americans was transferred among others Sandis Ozoliòš to the Carolina Hurricanes, with whom he could reach the Stanley Cup final in 2002, which was, however, lost to the Detroit Red Wings. In the 2005/06 season the team reached the finals again and this time was able to win the cup, it was simultaneously Hedicans first Stanley Cup victory in his 15 -year career to date. After the season 2007 /08, the Americans spent a year with the Anaheim Ducks. In September 2009, he announced the end of his active career.

Internationally

With the U.S. national hockey team Bret Hedican participated in the Olympic Hockey Tournament in 1992 partly in Albertville and 2006 in Turin, but to be able to win without a medal.
