Bretignolles-sur-Mer
Bretignolles -sur -Mer ( sometimes spelled Brétignolles -sur -Mer ) is a commune and resort in the Vendée on the Atlantic coast and is part of the Côte de Lumière. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pays de Saint -Gilles- Croix- de -Vie. The inhabitants call themselves Bretignollais (it).

Geography
La Roche- sur- Yon, the prefecture of the department is located, about 35 kilometers east, Les Sables d' Olonne, about 18 kilometers south and Saint- Gilles- Croix- de -Vie approximately eleven kilometers north. The river Jaunay, a left tributary of the Vie, forms the northern boundary of the municipality to Givrand and L' Aiguillon- sur -Vie. The artificial lake Lac du Jaunay lies about five miles to the northeast.

The feeder to the Autoroute A87 is located about 30 kilometers southeast.
History
Archaeological finds of flint and megalithic monuments occupy a more millennial history of settlement of the municipality. Between the 12th and 14th centuries Bretignolles then stood several times under British rule. 1854 joined the community from a part of its territory to Saint- Gilles- sur -Vie, which allowed the latter to expand their resort activities.
