Epinay -sur -Morrens is a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Epinay -sur -Morrens is located on 721 m above sea level. M., 8 km north of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The village is located on a high plateau east of the talent in the eastern Gros de Vaud, on the north western edge of the heights of the Jorat, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​2.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the higher Vaud Mittelland. The communal land is bordered on the west and south of the headwaters of the talent that has been unearthed in the course of time, a valley in the molasse. Population

With 737 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Epinay -sur -Morrens one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 95.0% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.4 % and 0.5 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Epinay -sur -Morrens amounted in 1850 to 200 residents in 1900 to 212 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1960 to 175 people, a rapid population increase was observed with a quadrupling of the population within 40 years.

Economy

Epinay -sur -Morrens was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Today, the crop and livestock farming have only a minor role in the occupational structure of the population. At the talent there was formerly a sawmill. Since the late 1980s, new companies set up operations in the city, including a mode of metal construction. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Most workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Lausanne area.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1224 under the name Britignie. Since the Middle Ages belonged to Epinay -sur -Morrens the Noble Bottens that had received the village as a fief of the lords of Cossonay. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Epinay -sur -Morrens came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Lausanne. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Echallens.

Attractions

In 1806 the parish hall was built with bell tower. Epinay -sur -Morrens does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Morrens.
