Geography

Bretsch is north of the Altmark region, between the small towns Arendsee ( Altmark), Seehausen ( Altmark) and Osterburg ( Altmark). The village is about 32 meters above sea level in the glacial valley of the Elbe, in the hilly ground moraine and is bounded by the following districts: east of Drüsedau, Dequede and Röthenberg, south of the stack, and Wohlberg, west of Dewitz and north of Priemern. History

Until December 31, 2009 Bretsch was an independent municipality with the associated hamlets Dewitz, Drüsedau and Priemern.

Through a field amendment agreement, the municipal councils of the municipalities have Boock ( 20 May 2009 ), Bretsch ( 30 June 2009 ), Gagel ( 12 January 2009 ), Heiligenfelde ( 21 January 2009 ), Kossebau ( June 16, 2009), Losse ( 23 January 2009 ) and Lückstedt ( 12 January 2009 ) decided that their communities dissolved and merged into a new community with the name Altmärkische height. This agreement was approved by the county as a lower municipal supervisory authority and entered into force on 1 January 2010.

Archeology

The megalithic tombs at Bretsch bear witness to a settlement of the district in the Neolithic period.

Cultural life in Bretsch is maintained almost exclusively by the local clubs. In Bretsch are the home, riding and driving club and the Funding of volunteer fire departments.

Transport links
