Brett Breitkreuz began his career as a hockey player with the Yorkton Terriers, for which he was active in the 2005/06 season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He then played four years in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League in which he represented the Kelowna Rockets, Edmonton Oil Kings and Vancouver Giants on the ice. In the 2009/10 season, he was also assistant captain for the Oil Kings.
For the 2010/11 season Breitkreuz has been committed by the Cologne Sharks of the German Ice Hockey League, for whom he made his DEL debut on 17 September 2010 the 1-2 defeat against Nürnberg Ice Tigers.
On April 23 in 2013 to transfer the Augsburger Panther was announced.
