Brett Connolly

Brett Connolly (born 2 May 1992, Campbell River, British Columbia ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since July 2011 with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Raised in Prince George Connolly in 2007, selected at Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League tenth of his home club, the Prince George Cougars, played for the Cariboo Cougars in the British Columbia Major Midget League. In the 2008 /09 season he was one of the first established in the squad of the Prince George Cougars in the WHL. He was excellent in his first year with the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as the best rookie of the League as well as with the CHL Rookie of the Year Award after he was able to record 60 points in 65 games. In the following season, he completed only 16 games in the WHL due to injury. NHL Entry Draft 2010 he was selected sixth by the Tampa Bay Lightning. For the season 2010/11 he was appointed at the Prince George Cougars captain and was top scorer with 73 points of his team.

After he had signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning 1 July 2011, he made his debut in the first season game of Bolts 7 October 2011 against the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League, where he was on the ice for 14 minutes.

Internationally

During his rookie season in the WHL, Connolly took for the team Canada Pacific participated in the World U -17 Hockey Challenge, where he won the silver medal. In the same year he was first appointed to the Canadian U18 national team, with which he participated as the youngest player on the team at the U18 World Youth Championship 2009. In 2011 he was at the U20 World Youth Championship for the Canadian squad that won the silver medal.
