Brett Gurewitz

Brett Gurewitz aka Mr. Brett ( born May 12, 1962 in Los Angeles ) is a guitarist and songwriter for the American band Bad Religion. He is the founder and owner of the independent label Epitaph Records.

In Los Angeles he founded in 1979 along with his high school classmates Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley and Jay Ziskrout the band Bad Religion, in which he is a guitarist and songwriter, and which is an institution in punk rock today. In 1994 he left the band due to in-band disputes, to devote himself entirely to his label. Also problems with drugs are said to have played a role. He founded a new band called Daredevils (including with Josh Freese of the Vandals and the later successful director Gore Verbinski ), but not more than the single Hate You (1996 ) published.

After being in 2000 for the Bad Religion album The New America again a song co-wrote (Believe It), he finally came in 2001 back to his old band, where he is now indeed again involved in the songwriting, but that because of the work with his label can not accompany regularly on tour. Since Brian Baker remained as his then substitute in the bathroom religion lineup, the guitar parts but could also live continue to be implemented easily. Published in 2002, now with three guitarists in the studio, the " reunion " album The Process of Belief and in 2004, the highly political album The Empire Strikes First.

In 2003 he founded together with the brothers Atticus and Leopold Ross and Greg Puciato the band Error, which makes but mostly electronic music.
