Bretten (Haut-Rhin)

Bretten is a commune of 172 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Altkirch, for Canton Dannemarie and community association Porte d'Alsace.

Geography

The municipality is located in the transition zone between the Vosges and the Burgundian gate, approximately in the middle between Mulhouse and Belfort. In the municipality stems from the Largue Creek Traubach.

Neighboring communities of Bretten are Soppe -le-Haut in the north, Soppe -le- Bas and Diefmatten ( contact point) in the Northeast, Sternberg in the east, the south and Bellemagny Eteimbes in the West.

History

The town's name probably derives from the Latin pratum ( meadow). In 1331 he was mentioned as Bratt, 1503 as Brethen.
