Bretylium is not authorized in Germany antiarrhythmic agent Vaughn -Williams class III (potassium channel blocker ). Especially in the U.S. where it is sold under the trade name Bretylol ® on the market, it is used in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. Most professional societies recommend the use of bretylium no longer, because the superiority over other agents that are approved for the same indication (eg, lidocaine) is questionable and in many cases very difficult to control blood pressure pulls the administration of bretylium after themselves.
