Breuil (Somme)

Breuil is a northern French village with 57 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier, in the canton of Roye and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays Neslois.

Toponymy

The name derives from the Celtic Breuil term brogilo (turned hegter Forest).

Geography

Breuil is situated about 6 km southeast of Petit Nesle on Unitingon whose course here the Canal du Nord follows. A bridge over the canal connects the place with Bacquencourt, in the municipality of Hombleux. The castle is located in the southeast of the building.

History

The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
