Breukelen

The former Dutch municipality of Breukelen ( listen? / I ) in the province of Utrecht consists of the districts Breukelen, Kockengen and Nieuwer Ter Aa. It has a size of 48.64 square kilometers. Counted in late 2010 Breukelen 14,736 inhabitants. Since 1 January 2011, Breukelen is part of the newly formed community Stichtse Vecht.

The city was named after the New York district of Brooklyn.

Location

The municipality is located on the railway line Utrecht - Amsterdam about 9 kilometers north- west of Utrecht, along the river Vecht Utrechtsche and the most heavily used channel in Europe, the Amsterdam - Rhine canal. There is some industry and tourism ( boat trips on the river Vecht ).

Education

In the medieval castle of the same name is the privatized economy Nijenrode University, where business and management training courses are given. The diplomas are recognized inter alia in the U.S. ( International Business School ). The students stay in the castle itself, the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Wim Kok holds a degree here. Patron was died in 2004, Prince Bernhard.
