Brezzo di Bedero

Brezzo di Bedero is an Italian commune in the province of Varese, with 1203 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

The municipality consists of the villages ( fractions) Bedero Brezzo, Pralongo, Pisciò, Lantis, La Canonica and Trigo. The municipal area is the Villaggio Olandese.

Brezzo di Bedero is located south of Luino on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore. The neighboring municipalities are Brissago Valtravaglia Germignaga, and Porto Valtravaglia.

Structures

The Collegiate of San Vittore ( Canonica ) is a Romanesque church, which was in 1137 built on the foundations of an old church. It is one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in the province of Varese. Frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries have been preserved in the apse, in the right aisle and in the sacristy. Also worth mentioning is the built in 1700 organ. Since 1972 takes place at the Canonica each from July to September, the classical music festival " Stagione Musicale della Canonica " instead.
