Børge Mogensen

Børge Mogensen ( born April 13, 1914 in Aalborg, † October 5, 1972 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish furniture designer.

Career

Børge Mogensen completed until 1934 an apprenticeship as a carpenter. Subsequently, he studied from 1936 to 1941 at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in Kaare Klint furniture architecture. He was employed from 1945 to 1947 assistant at Klint. In the 1940s, Mogensen developed two furniture series for children. In the Danish Association of Consumer Cooperatives ( FDB), he was from 1942 to 1950 Head of the Department for furniture. Here he developed individual pieces and complete series, which could be produced at consumer- friendly prices.

Mogensen 1950 founded his own studio in Copenhagen and worked from then on behalf of various Danish furniture manufacturer, usually in cooperation with Andrew Hollingsworth. His designs are manufactured and marketed in part by Fredericia Furniture A / S. With the company Mogensen worked together since 1955.

His style resembles that of his teacher Kaare Klint. As he Mogensen developed modular design that would allow the use for multiple purposes. His goal was to create furniture for " average families " that met their needs and financial capabilities. He developed furniture for every room of an apartment. During his designated as functional designs Mogensen made ​​borrowings from Chinese, Spanish, and other traditional styles. The American Shaker furniture served as his inspiration.
