Brian Aherne

Brian Aherne ( born 2 May 1902 in King's Norton, Worcestershire, England; † February 10, 1986 in Venice, Florida, William Brian de Lacy Aherne actually ) was a British actor.

Life and work

Aherne was already at the age of almost eight years on April 5, 1910 in Birmingham in the play Fifinella first time on stage. In December 1913, he made ​​her first appearance in London. In 1920 he began to study architecture, which he broke off. His debut as a film actor he was in 1924 with the film The Eleventh Commandment. It was followed by numerous theater productions. For his role as Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg in the movie Juarez Aherne was in 1940 nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor.

He was married twice. His first marriage to actress Joan Fontaine held from 1939 to 1945 and was divorced. His second wife he married in 1946, with whom he spent his retirement until his death in 1986 in a castle on Lake Geneva.

His older brother Patrick Aherne was also an actor.
