Brian Benning

Brian A. Benning ( born June 10, 1966 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1985 to 1995 for the St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League played. His brother Jim also played in the NHL.

Career

Brian Benning began his career as a hockey player with the Portland Winter Hawks, for whom he played in the 1983/84 season in the Western Hockey League. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1984 in the second round than a total of 26 players from the St. Louis Blues. However, he started the following season with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL before he gave St. Louis its debut in the National Hockey League, for whom he four times was used until season's end.

The 1985/86 season spent Benning in the youth team of Team Canada, for which he was the entire regular season active. Then he ran in 6 games on for the Blues in the NHL playoffs. After three more years in St. Louis, the defender was released on 10 November 1989 at the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for their third round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft in 1991. After almost 2 1/2 years Benning had the Kings leave again and was transferred together with the Erstrundenwahlrecht the Kings in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 for Paul Coffey to the Philadelphia Flyers. After only one year in Philadelphia Benning was delivered to the Edmonton Oilers in January 1993, the non-extended his contract at the end of the 1992/93 season. July 13, 1993 Benning was finally obliged by the Florida Panthers, where he ended his career in 1995.

Internationally

For Canada, Brian Benning took part in the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1993 and reached with his team to fourth place.
