Brian Bilbray

Brian Patrick Bilbray ( born January 28, 1951 in Coronado, California) is an American politician. Between 1995 and 2013 he represented two times the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Brian Bilbray is a cousin of former Congressman James Bilbray of Nevada. He graduated from Mar Vista High School and the South Western College in his California home and worked as a tax consultant. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party. From 1976 to 1978 he was councilor in Imperial Beach; between 1978 and 1985, he served there as mayor. From 1985 to 1994 he was a member of the county council in San Diego County.

In the congressional elections of 1994, Bilbray was the 49th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Lynn Schenk took on 3 January 1995, he had beaten in the election. After two re- elections he was initially able to complete three legislative sessions in Congress until January 3, 2001. In 2000 he was defeated Susan Davis of the Democratic Party.

According to the preliminary end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Bilbray worked as a lobbyist. Following the resignation of Mr Randy Cunningham, he was elected to the due election for the 50th seat of California as his successor in Congress, where he took his seat on 6 June 2006. After three re- elections he could remain until January 3, 2013 U.S. House of Representatives. He was considered a conservative and voted for his second inaugural in 2006, in 93 % of the votes for templates of the then Federal Government under President George W. Bush. Bilbray was a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce as well as in three sub-committees. Previously, he was sitting in the Armed Services Committee, the Veterans Committee and the Committee on Government Reform. In 2013 he was defeated by Scott Peters.

Brian Bilbray is married and the father of five children; privately he lives in San Diego. His son Brian is council in Imperial Beach.
