Brian Billick ( born February 28, 1954 in Fairborn, Ohio, USA ) is a former American football player and coach. By the end of the 2007 season, he was head coach of the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League ( NFL). He currently works as a sports analyst with the TV channel FOX.

Youth

Billick played in his youth, in addition to football and basketball. In high school he played both as a quarterback, as well as safety. He still holds the state record of Ohio with 21 interceptions. His college studies, he began first at the United States Air Force Academy as a linebacker but then after a year to Brigham Young University, where he played tight end at the Brigham Young University Cougars. In the 1976 season he caught 20 passes for a room gain of 338 yards.

Professional players

In the 1977 NFL Draft Billick was selected in the 11th round at the 295th point of the San Francisco 49ers. Before the season, but he was laid off and then joined the Dallas Cowboys on where he however was never used. Billick never played professionally in the NFL.

Coach

Billick began after his playing career had failed, at a young age as a coach. In 1978 he was first assistant coach at his old college before he worked as an assistant coach at three other colleges. He was finally obliged by the Minnesota Vikings as offensive coordinator by coach Dennis Green in 1992. Under him, the Vikings developed a very good attacking team, regularly pulled the team into the play- offs, a, an unqualified success, winning the Super Bowl should Billick not succeed with the team, however. 1998, in his last year with the Vikings could win this 15 their 16 game during the regular season, but the team failed in the NFC Championship game to the Atlanta Falcons. With the performance as an assistant coach with the Vikings Billick was a man in great demand as a head coach in 1999 and was given this position at the Baltimore Ravens. In the first year Billick was his team that regularly lost more games since its inception, as it could lead to a balanced win record this season. In its second year, the Ravens then moved for the first time in the Play Offs one won the AFC Championship Game against the Oakland Raiders, who were coached by Jon Gruden Billicks competitors, with 16:3. The move into the Super Bowl was the result.
