Brian Davis (bishop)

Brian Newton Davis CNZM (* 1934 in Stratford, † 1998) was a New Zealand priest and Anglican Archbishop of New Zealand Primate of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.

Life

Brian Newton Davis attended Stratford High School in Taranaki and studied at Ardmore Training College in Papakura, at Victoria University of Wellington, at College House in Christchurch and at St John 's College in Auckland. After his ordination he was curate in the Wellington suburb of Karori, Vicar in Dannevirke and dean and vicar general in the Diocese of Waiapu. From 1980 to 1985 he was Bishop of Waikato before moving to the bishopric in Wellington in 1986 and Archbishop of New Zealand was and thus Primate of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, a member church of the Anglican Communion.
