Brian Dawkins ( born October 13, 1973 in Jacksonville, Florida ) is a former American professional American football player who played on the position of the free safeties. He played for the Denver Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League ( NFL).

College Football

Dawkins was three years starter at Clemson University in South Carolina. His career with the Clemson Tigers, he finished with 247 tackles and eleven interceptions. In his senior year, he was a 2nd Team All American, as he led the conference with six interceptions.

NFL

Brian Dawkins was in the second round (as 61 players ) of the NFL Draft selected in 1996 by the Philadelphia Eagles. In his rookie season he scored in 13 of 14 games 75 tackles, a sack and three interceptions. Throughout his career, Brian Dawkins was seven times elected to the Pro Bowl ( 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008) and is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles 75th Anniversary Team. After the 2008 season, Brian Dawkins joined the free -agency period from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Denver Broncos. There, he signed a five - year contract.

Resignation

On April 23, 2012 via Twitter Dawkins announced his resignation. His reasoning for this was that he wanted to resign until he had no other physical ailments through sport. But he wants to remain in Colorado and work as a high- school football coach.

On April 28, 2012, he signed another one -day contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, so he resigns as Eagle. Then gave the Eagles announced that they are no longer awarded his jersey number (20) ( in game week four of the 2012 season against the New York Giants ).
