Brian Diemer

Brian Lee Diemer ( born October 10, 1961 in Grand Rapids ) is a retired American hurdler.

Diemer attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and 1983 NCAA champion in the steeplechase. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in the same year he reached the semi-final round. He scored his most significant sporting success at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In 8,14,06 min he won the bronze medal behind the Kenyans Julius Korir ( 8:11,30 min) and the Frenchman Joseph Mahmoud ( 8:13,31 min).

At the World Athletics Championships 1987 in Rome Diemer finished fourth. The following year he became U.S. champion in steeplechase for the first time. More titles followed in 1989, 1990 and 1992. At the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, he missed his seventh semi-final run into the finals. However, he came at the World Athletics Championships 1991 in Tokyo to fifth place and at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 to seventh place.

At the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 Diemer was eliminated in the flow. His last international medal he won second place in the Pan American Games in 1995 in Mar del Plata.

Brian Diemer is 1,76 m tall and had a competition weight of 64 kg.
