Brian Kerr (football manager)

Brian Kerr ( born March 3, 1953 in Dublin) is an Irish football coach. He was known primarily as a coach of the Irish national football team, which he supervised between 2003 and 2005.

Early stations

After he was active among other things as a football player and boxer in his youth, Kerr began at the age of 18 years with the support of various youth teams. Parallel ar worked as a laboratory technician at University College Dublin. After holding various positions as a youth coach Kerr was in the late seventies assistant coach at the first division club Home Farm and Drogheda United, before he assisted the Irish football legend Liam Tuohy in the care of the Irish national youth teams.

St Patrick's Athletic

Kerr's first job as head coach was the position in the Dublin suburb of club St Patrick's Athletic, which he held from 1986 to 1996. With the " Pats ", he won twice (1990 and 1996), the Irish Championship and led the club tradition thus for the first time since 1956, again the most important national title. Since the financial crisis of the association in 1992 Kerr is also one of the partners of the club.

Irish Youth National

Kerr left St. Patrick's Athletic ( and University College Dublin) at the end of 1996 to become coach of the Irish national youth teams. Between 1996 and 2003, Kerr oversaw all teams from U -16 to U- 20th Already in his first major tournament, the Junior World Cup in 1997 his team was able to win the bronze medal striker Damien Duff and achieved one of the greatest achievements in the history of Irish football. Irish national

After his successful time as a youth coach Kerr was appointed successor to Mick McCarthy as Irish coach in 2003. McCarthy had failed with the national team at the 2002 World Cup in the second round, also was its relationship to team captain Roy Keane as shattered. Once under McCarthy also directed the first two games were lost in qualifying for Euro 2004, this was replaced by Kerr. Return to St Patrick's Athletic

National coach of the Faroe Islands
