Brian Kilby

Brian Kilby (Brian Leonard Kilby ;) ( born February 26, 1938 in Coventry) is a former British marathon runner who in 1962 became European Champion.

Kilby debuted in 1960 on the marathon course and won his second marathon in the championship of the AAA. By 1964, he latched on to five times in a row the championship title of the AAA. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he finished in 2:28:55 hours Rank 29

On September 16, 1962 Kilby won at the European Championships in Belgrade in 2:23:18,8 hours with a 40 second lead on the Belgian Aurèle Vandendriessche. On November 29, 1962 Kilby succeeded by the AAA Championship and the European Championship title the third major win of the year. In the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, he won in 2:21:17 hours with about a minute ahead of the Australian Dave Power.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he reached in 2:17:02 hours in fourth place, with about forty seconds behind his compatriot Basil Heatley ( silver) and the Japanese Kokichi Tsuburaya; only the Ethiopian Abebe Bikila, with over four minutes ahead of Heatley and Tsubaraya was completely out of reach for Kilby.

To his last marathon in 1966 Kilby joined the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston ( Jamaica); he was on the move.

Brian Kilby is 1,70 m tall and weighed about 57 kg competition times.
