Brian Lenihan, Jnr

Brian Joseph Lenihan (Irish Brian Ó Seosamh Luineacháin, born May 21, 1959 in Dublin, † June 10, 2011 ) was an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ), and finally from 2008 until 2011 Finance Minister in his home country.

Life

Lenihan attended Belvedere College and Trinity College, Dublin. He then studied at the University of Cambridge and attended the King's Inns. In 1984 he was admitted to the legal profession and held from 1984 to 1996 lectures in law at Trinity College.

Lenihan was first elected in April 1996 in the constituency of Dublin West at a by-election for the replacement of a vacant seat in the Dáil Éireann and moved here for his late father Brian Lenihan senior after. Between June 2002 and June 2007 was Lenihan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice. After that, he became Minister of Justice (Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform ) and held that post until May 2008, when he, the now Taoiseach Brian Cowen was, replaced as Minister of Finance.

His term is dominated by the effects of the banking crisis. 2010, the deficit of the State of Ireland will be well over 30 % of economic output. At the turn of 2009/2010 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He spoke of "intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy " in June 2010, as a consequence it go better. However, he died on 10 June 2011 as a result of his illness at the age of 52 years at his home in West Dublin.
