After that he worked as a commentator for Radio 5 Live, Sky Sports and STAR Sports, and as a marketing manager for the sporting goods manufacturer Nike. Sports career

As the " home-grown " the youth department of Hull City and after first experiences in the reserve team came the fast and tricky Marwood in the season 1979/80 to the first third league appearances for the " Tigers". Although he rose with the club after the 1980/81 season in the Viertklassigkeit from, but he was now on key players of the team, which was preparing to march to the second division within the next four years all the way up. In the first ascent 1982/83 season Marwood controlled equal 19 Goals and in the following season 1983/84 was the next rise in range. At the last game he scored both goals in the 2-0 success that was not enough, given the required victory by three goals. Although Hull City had due to the deferred by one year only rise not grieve long, but Marwood had already left the club in August 1984 in the direction of Erstligaaufsteigers Sheffield Wednesday.

In the team of coach Howard Wilkinson Marwood fit line with our ideals, saw this with many edges from the right side of the striker as Lee Chapman and Garry Thompson but for large risk in the opponent's penalty area. To this end, he showed himself more goal threat and with 13 league goals in the 1985/86 season he was unerringly most contactors of " Owls ", which ended up in two years after the return to the First Division in the top half of the table and also an FA Cup semi-final reached - Marwood's absence was ultimately not as irrelevant for the defeat against Everton. During this time he was also considered a possible candidate for the English national team, but the international debut had to wait even longer to be held under coach Bobby Robson only on November 16, 1988 against Saudi Arabia - where nine -minute appearance for Chris Waddle however, was not followed by second appearance more.

In March 1988, Marwood moved to FC Arsenal and in the remaining games of the season 1987/88 denied the novice four league games. After the start bit subdued, the following season 1988/89, it became very successful and Marwood quickly captured on the left side of midfield a regular place. He began particularly spectacular in the first four league games in which he scored a goal each. He quickly became a key player in the converted coach George Graham team and with his flanks, he contributed greatly to that center-forward Alan Smith at the end top scorer in the First Division was and the " Gunners " won the English championship. Marwood most important of the nine league goals was the 1-0 winning goal on April 15, 1989 against Newcastle United. Thus, the foundation was laid for the " last minute title" that Arsenal won the last match in Liverpool, where Marwood, however, was not entered due to an injury after scoring in appearance. The following season, 1989/90 Marwood graduated comparatively few 18 competitive games in which indeed reach six goals to him, but the injuries took now such that the arrival of Anders Limpar at the beginning of the season 1990/91 an early end of Marwood's commitment announced. In October 1990, he finally returned to Sheffield back to Wednesdays local rivals United.

At Sheffield United was hoped that Marwood's commitment that this caused flanks striker Brian Deane and Tony Agana like. Although Marwood was in only 17 league games on the field, but jointly managed the club avoid relegation. Had to be taken into account Marwood's commitment as the new chairman of the players' union PFA and in October 1991 seemed to be a return to the Northeast English before home stand. However, lending to the second division FC Middlesbrough was not a sequel, and he returned to only three league matches for " Boro " first to Sheffield back before he moved to the second division Swindon Town and there completed towards the end of the season 1992/93 eleven league games. At the beginning of his last professional season 1993/94 he went to the third division side FC Barnet and ended there after 18 games in the starting lineup by the end, and five appearances as a substitute in the second half his active career.
