Brian Ulrich

Brian Ulrich (born 1971 in Northport (New York)) is an American photographer. He taught at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Life and work

In his work he examines the peculiarities of consumer society. Together with his fellow students, Matt Siber and Jon Gitelson, he works in a loose group of artists called " Chicagraphers ". He is working hard with new media and relates the World Wide Web and blogs in its projects with a.

2001 Ulrich began after the request of the Bush administration to strengthen the national economy through increased consumption, a project to document the consumer culture in the United States. Copia, is a series of photographs of the people shopping, supermarkets and department.

Ulrich's work is among other things in the museums Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Art Institute of Chicago; and Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago represented. In 2009 he received a Guggenheim Fellowship.

He lives in Chicago.
