Brianka

Brjanka (Ukrainian Брянка; Russian Брянка / Brjanka ) is a city of regional significance in the Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with around 47,400 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geographical location

The city is located in the eastern Donets Basin about 50 km west of Oblasthauptstadt Luhansk. It is part of the agglomeration Alchevsk - Stakhanov Stakhanov and bordered to the north, on the east by Alchevsk, to the south and to the west by Artemivsk Almasna.

Climate

History

Brianka was founded in 1696. A strong development of the town began with the dismantling of the coal deposits around the city since the mid-19th century. On 12 July 1942, the city was occupied by the German Wehrmacht and freed on September 2, 1943 by the Soviet Army. Since 1962 Brianka has the status of a city.
