Bridgend (Islay)

Bridgend (Gaelic: Átha bulge on ) is a small village on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay. It is located at the head of the bay hole Indaal about 3.5 km north-east of Bowmore, the capital of the island and 17 km north of the ferry terminal and Port Ellen. The nearest town is Bowmore.

The scattered settlement located a few hundred meters away from the coastline along the banks of Sorn, which empties itself into the sea beyond the village. To the northwest is the Islay House, with its scattered buildings and far-reaching lands. Previously, Bridgend location of the bank on Islay and the Telegraph Station and was connected by coach connections to the ferry ports Port Ellen and Port Askaig. Today with the A846 introduces the most important road of the island by Bridgend, which runs from Ardbeg to the south over Port Askaig on the island of Jura. In Bridgend also branches off the A847 which runs through Port Charlotte until after Portnahaven.
