Bridie O'Flaherty

Bridie O'Flaherty ( * 1917 or 1918 † 12 January 2006 in Mervue, Galway ) was an Irish politician and two-time mayor of Galway.

Bridie O'Flaherty began her political career as a member of Fianna Fáil. From July 1980 to June 1981, she held the office of Mayor of Galway for their party; July 1985 to June 1986 she held the office again. During her second term, however, O'Flaherty stepped over to the newly founded Progressive Democrats. 1999 was replaced Bridie O'Flaherty by her daughter Terry O'Flaherty in the City Council of Galway (Galway City Council). At this time, Bridie O'Flaherty had already been a member of the city council for 25 years.

From June 2003 to June 2004 her daughter was also Mayor of Galway. Thus they became the first mother-daughter pair in the office of mayor. Both are descendants of the O'Flaherty clan of Connemara dominated until the 17th century.
