Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn Deh 4/4

The Deh 4/4 is a narrow-gauge baggage railcar series of former Brig -Visp- Zermatt -Bahn ( BVZ ), today Matterhorn -Gotthard - Bahn (MGB ), for adhesion and rack operation. The series comprises four vehicles ( numbers 21 to 24) and is based in the mechanical part on the FO Deh 4/4 I, but is constructed electrically different.

History

Increased traffic, especially the shuttle Tasch -Zermatt called for an extension of the driver parks the BVZ, consisting of only six forty years locomotives and five joint - or two-car beginning of the 1970s. Since the concept of Deh 4/4-Pendelzüge by the FO well proven, also ordered the Brig -Visp- Zermatt -Bahn in 1973 four engines, intermediate and driving coaches were delivered in 1975 and 1976. While the mechanical part of the railcar was largely unchanged, a thyristor, manufactured by SAAS came in the electrical analog of the SBB series RABDe 8/16 for the installation, which increases the performance over the FO vehicles. Tax and intermediate cars were also of the same type (SIG - unit cars I) as those of the FO, but longer.

Technology

For reasons of weight reduction of car body is made of lightweight metal construction. The equipment cabinets with electronic and pneumatic equipment are housed in the luggage compartment in the middle. The transformer is located under the car body, bogies have two engines.

Electric vehicle with phase control ( Thyristor ) is constructed. It has a drag brake, but no recuperation.

Use

The former BVZ vehicles are used between Zermatt and Brig with both commuter trains as well as with drawn passenger trains and freight trains. Since 2006, they also come at the Oberalp used, however, they lack the braking equipment for Schoellenen. This railcar can carry five cars to Zermatt and the Oberalp. In summer, a shuttle train for the Oberalp line is formed in each case, in this the vehicles within the composition with the automatic GF clutch ( GFN ) are connected.
