She studied German literature and pedagogy, and was initially working for several years as a teacher in Aachen and Gottingen. She is married to the art scientists and educators Armin writer. Since 1974 lives and who grew up in the Ruhr Kronauer in Hamburg works as an author. In the 1970s and 1980s she had with the Austrian magazine the wound and whose editor Klaus Sandler contact. Her first novel, Mrs. Mill Beck enclosur (1980 ) already aroused great attention. The novel Teufelsbrück from 2000 is partly set in Arosa, where Kronauer regularly lived on vacation.

Showing

In the broadcast double head of hr2-kultur Kronauer said she felt the prose of Ror Wolf very close. An appreciation Ror Wolf of it appeared under the title appearance on the horizon in the wound (39/ 1975), collected in Essays on Literature (1987 ), pp. 9-21.

In a review for literaturkritik.de Peter Mohr wrote on the occasion of the novel desire for music and Mountains ( 2004):

" Brigitte Kronauer is one of the most educated, spoke most powerful and most ambitious writers in the German language area. The native Essenerin who lived for many years in Hamburg and has been awarded numerous literary prizes, has now presented a novel, which solidifies in beauty. A book about love, about art, about philosophy and politics - a polyphonic, more essayistic narrative as word paintings in which each stroke of the brush is well considered, but which nevertheless relatively unscathed pulls the viewer / reader. "

To a different conclusion Eberhard Hübner comes in the mirror Special 4 /2004. He writes about desire for music and Mountains:

" Kronauer sets want to modify the internal optics of the reader, at least for the duration of the novel. One is drawn into a kaleidoscope of perceptions and imaginations, which hardly has something in common with the usual Romanrealistik. " "

He continues:

" The title is a Nietzsche quote from the aphorisms of his" Dawn ". They are " fictions " says Nietzsche does this give this request " scope and Discharge." Both met Brigitte Kronauer's novel in one for the current German literature very unique way. "

Tilman Krause concludes his review in the WORLD on October 2, 2004 with the words:

" ... Relish that you would most like to read once again from the beginning. "
