Geographical Location
The community is located about 5 kilometers southwest of Hesel. The nearest major town is empty, about 8 kilometers southwest of Brinkum.
History
Origin of the name
Old names of the place are 1388 Brin Cham, 1408, and 1645 Brinchem Brinckum. " Brink " means " hill in the meadows ", " covered plateau ", " vegetated alluvium in the river bed ", " Anger", " Assembly ( splatz ) ", " delimiting height ", " edge ", " shore ".

Parish council
The Council of the Municipality Council Brinkum consists of nine women and councilors. This is the set number for the member community of integrated municipality with a population of 501-1000 people. The council members are elected through local elections for five years. The current term of office began on 1 November 2011.
The council chose the Alderman Bernard Janssen as honorary mayor for the current parliamentary term.

The turnout in the local elections of 2011 was 55.8 %, slightly above the Lower Saxony average of 52.5 %. For comparison - in the previous local elections on 10 September 2006, the voter turnout was 58.6 %.

Blazon: " Divided by battlements section; above in silver two green four-leaf clovers, down in green with a silver pitcher, ornamented with two black zigzag friezes. "
The battlements symbolize the castle which formerly stood in Brinkum. The pitcher points to the numerous archaeological discoveries in the area and stands for the early settlement of the region. The shamrocks are for agriculture.

Brinkum can be reached via Federal Highway 28, Junction empty East and State Road 436. The nearest train station is in neutral, to meet the two routes: The Emsland route from Munster to Emden and the distance from Oldenburg to Groningen in the Netherlands.
