Bristol Commercial Vehicles produced 1949-1968 over 5200 copies for the public bus operators in the UK. All vehicles have a structure produced by the Eastern Coach Works ( ECW). The bus had a half-side cab. The lower deck was made lower in order to reduce the overall height of the vehicle. The first buses had the LD series and the series FL and FS entry for rear seat passengers in the rear on a platform with the stairs to the upper deck located here. In the series FSF and FLF, the entry and the staircase was directly behind the front axle. Most vehicles were powered by five- or six-cylinder diesel engines from Gardner, in some engines from Bristol or Leyland were used. After starting from the end of the 1960s in Britain, the one-man operation was permitted by law for double-decker buses (without conductor ), the Lodekkas increasingly of more modern buses with entrances in front of the front axle ( eg Leyland Atlantean and Bristol VRT) were displaced. Part of the Lodekkas found as driving school vehicles use. The company Top Deck Travel built 1973-1997 to about a hundred buses decker -home mobile homes. Recipient of the Lodekka were different bus companies in the UK. London-based bus company did obtain no Lodekkas, but the bus was used by the bus operators Thames Valley and Eastern National on lines in the British capital.

The Bristol Lodekka was also produced by Dennis under license and marketed as Dennis lolines.
