Brita Baldus is 1988 East German champion in springboard diving

Brita Pia Baldus ( born June 4, 1965 in Leipzig) is a former German water jumper, who won three European titles.

Sports career

Brita Baldus competed for the SC DHfK Leipzig and was a specialist in the art of jumping from the three- meter springboard; as the late 1980s also Championships were held from the one- meter board, she was also the international elite. In 1981, she won her first DDR titles. After 1982 was only finished third, she took her most difficult jump, the three and a half times the forward Alto, before the World Cup from the program because it was not secure enough in this jump, then finished fifth at the World Championships. In 1983, she won both the East German Championship and the European Championship. In 1984, she again won the East German championship and reached thereby 557.85 points, the highest score by then, the world had reached a jumper. Because of the Olympic boycott the GDR they missed their first Olympic participation.

In 1985, she won her third consecutive title GDR, 1986, she placed second behind Katrin Bensing. At the World Cup in 1986 could reach fifth place again. 1987 and 1988 won Brita Baldus again the champion in springboard diving. At the European Championships in 1987 she was awarded the bronze medal. In Seoul in 1988 they first participated in the Olympic Games, finishing in seventh place. In 1989 she won the first and only East German championship in jumping from a one- meter board. From a three- meter board, she took second place behind Silke Krüger. In early 1991 Brita Baldus joined the World Championships in Perth for the first time, the reunited Germany. She won bronze of the three- meter board. In August 1991 at the European Championships in Athens, she won the one- meter board and ersprang bronze from the three - meter board. In 1992, Baldus their only national title. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 Brita Baldus won bronze in springboard diving. 1993 won Brita Baldus at the end of their careers once the European Championship in diving from the three- meter board.

In the GDR it was in 1984 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.
