Britain (Virginia)

Britain is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located on the eastern foothills of the Short Hill Mountain at the intersection of Mountain Road (Virginia State Route 690 ) to the Britain Road.

The county town of Leesburg is 24 km away, the capital of Washington, DC is located approximately 93 kilometers east of Britain.

History

Britain, which was originally known under the name of Guinea, in the middle of the 19th century was an African American settlement. 1880 Free Mount Sinai Baptist Church was built, which served as a school until 1915. In contrast to most African-American communities in Loudoun County, there was Britain a post office. In the early 20th century, the African-American residents of the village began to move to other places, the last families left Britain in the 1920s.
