British Approved Name

The British Approved Name, short BAN is an official and public domain name for a drug or a drug combination according to the British Pharmacopoeia (British Pharmacopoeia). BAN designations are used in particular in countries of the Commonwealth of Nations, but also beyond use. However BAN names currently losing against the International Nonproprietary Name of the World Health Organization in importance. This is partly a consequence of the adaptation of the British pharmacopoeia for the names of the European Pharmacopoeia. Notwithstanding the claim in addition to the BAN- called " adrenaline " (INN: epinephrine) in particular, the unique fixed drug combination terms of the British Approved Name, such as " co- trimoxazole ."
