British Rail Class 444

Vehicles of the British class 444 are five -piece electric regional trains ( EMU - electric multiple unit ). They belong to the family of Siemens Desiro Mobility ( formerly Siemens Transportation Systems, since 10/2011 Siemens Rail Systems).

Manufacturers and operators

In 2001 the company Siemens Transportation Systems was awarded the contract on 45 five -car multiple units, which were manufactured in the factory in Vienna. The customer acceptance took place in the test center in Wegberg -Wildenrath. First delivery to the end customer, the British railway company South West Trains (SWT ), was on 24 May 2004 at London's Waterloo Station. Included in the contract is the maintenance over 25 years in the purpose-built depot in Northam, Southampton.

Stretch

It is operated Class 444 on the routes from London Waterloo to Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth.

Awards

The trade magazine Modern Railways has the class 444 was awarded the " Golden Spanner, 2010" as Britain's most reliable vehicle. Within twelve months of which are operated by SWT vehicles have set a new record with reliability about 89,000 km without interference.
