British Steel (English for: "British Steel" ) is the sixth studio album by British heavy metal band Judas Priest. It is the first album with drummer Dave Holland.

Background

The live album Unleashed in the East was also mixed into the Startling Studios by Ringo Starr. Since the band was very satisfied with the result, they returned to work on British Steel back there. As a producer Tom Allom acted, who had produced the same year already Def Leppard On Through the Night. The album was recorded within 28 days.

With Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight and United the album contains some of the most known songs by Judas Priest. The band recorded with the help of Julien Temple music videos to the songs Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight.

In advance of the publication were from the PR agent of the band, Tony McBrain, scattered false reports, the stolen tapes had to content. This would have been allegedly bought back against the payment of a sum of 50,000 pounds of Judas Priest. The band and their management were not aware of the misreporting.

Musical content

Music style

Musically, British Steel differs only slightly from the previous albums. Influenced album of sharp guitar riffs and anthemic vocals in some songs.

The album contains some sound effects, such as broken glass, thunder and robot noises. Since sampling was still quite unknown, the effects caused by " manual labor ". For example, the thunder was produced by the slamming of a door, the clinking glass shattered by a milk bottle. Other sounds were generated with a pool cue and Ringo Starr kitchen utensils.

Lyrics

Content, British Steel is insignificantly different from its predecessors. All three singles came in the UK in the charts. Living After Midnight and Breaking the Law to No. 12, United ranked 26 The latter was performed on Top of the Pops as a playback.

Achievements

The album benefited primarily from the fact that it appeared in 1980 at the height of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Judas Priest were regarded as a pioneer of the new British metal. This is probably why it is considered by many critics and fans as the " classic " Judas Priest album. Titles such as Breaking The Law, Metal Gods Living After Midnight or among the best known songs of the band and have been played ever since by going to concerts of the band. In the UK it reached # 4 on the charts and was thus the only album by Judas Priest, the company has positioned itself there in the top 5. In the Billboard charts, it reached number 34

The ensuing tour led the band through all of Western Europe and North America. Opening band was in Europe Iron Maiden, Def Leppard in the U.S. and the Scorpions.

The album was created in 1982 by the RIAA with a gold record. 1989 the album was then platinum status.
