British Steel

British Steel was a major British steel producer, which was founded in 1967 formed during the Labour government ( 1964-1970 ) by Harold Wilson from 13 nationalized private companies and had many different, widely separated production sites, such as Newport, Birmingham, Rotherham, Corby and Scotland.

British Steel was privatized in 1988 by the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher. The company merged on 6 October 1999 with the Dutch company Koninklijke Hoogovens to Corus Group.

In 2007, Corus was taken over by the Indian steel company Tata Steel.
