From these regulations led the FIA 2002, the Super 2000 regulations for the European Touring Car Championship from, the less freedoms allowed, however, as the BTCC regulations. Cars that are built and drove to the BTCC regulations, but may continue to participate.

New Generation Touring Car

For the 2011 season the BTCC again had its own charter under the name New Generation Touring Car. This is to respond to the ongoing changes in the FIA classification for the various concepts, with a balance between turbo diesel and Saugbenzinern, rear and front -wheel drive cars as well as cars and provide without sequentially operating transmission. In order to avoid these plans the BTCC now own new rules under the name New Generation Touring Car. Behind this front-wheel drive touring cars hide with 2-liter turbocharged petrol engines with a maximum speed of 7000 rpm and a maximum boost pressure of 0.8 bar at an engine power to be limited to just under 220 kW. To keep costs low, transmission, dampers, subframe and brakes shall be produced by a unit suppliers. To stand out a bit from the Super 2000 vehicles, the minimum length of the base vehicle is limited to 4400 mm. This hatchback models in the compact class as the Seat Leon or Volvo C30 are no longer permitted.

Meanwhile, the technical regulations were designed something freizuzügiger, including rear-wheel drive vehicles are now allowed, as well as vehicles that are shorter than 4400mm in the series. The reason the cost of the vehicles to reduce in contrast to S2000 regulations of the FIA has now almost equalized, so championship -capable vehicles now also cost about £ 200,000 without motor costs and are therefore not far from the S2000 cars of WTCC.
