So All Music Guide gave the album 4.5 out of 5 stars with the statement that the singer apparent with this album their personality, adult WOULD while she herself was. For the first time Spears tried with other music genres, as are two of the coupled- songs, I'm a Slave 4 U as the first single and later Boys, classified in the R & B field, both produced by American hip - hop duo The Neptunes.

By Dato Britney sold in the U.S. alone 4.9 million times, a commercial success and at the same time is a break in sales, compared with Spears' two previous albums.

Singles

A total of six singles from Britney were ausgekopplelt. The first single of the produced by The Neptunes R & B hit I'm a Slave 4 U was released worldwide in September 2001. With this song and the accompanying video Spears went in a completely different direction: The singer showed the audience much more mature, adult and wicked. The second and third singles Overprotected and I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman was released, the former was used as the second single in Australia and the United Kingdom, and the latter in the U.S. and the rest of Europe. Both singles symbolized for critics of the "return to pop", for the Spears decided first. Overprotected was also chosen as the third single for the U.S., but not published in the German-speaking countries, but first remixed by Rodney Jerkins and thus as Overprotected ( Darkchild Remix) with new video. I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman, also the title song of Spears first movie Crossroads - Cross Roads, now appeared as the third single in the UK and other countries. Between the two songs so there was a single split.

This was followed by I Love Rock 'n' Roll, a cover of the band Arrows and at the same soundtrack of Spears' movie, and Boys, which was in turn remixed (from The Neptunes ) and as Boys ( The Co- Ed Remix) appeared, now a collaboration with Pharrell Williams. As a sixth single Jive Records Anticipating published only in France and Brazil instead I Love Rock 'n' Roll. This single from the album was the first and so far last " test release"; the record company wanted to address with the 80 's inspired music to a different audience, which it did, as the single in both countries had a decent success and succeeded in entering the charts.
