Britonia

Britonia is the historical name of a settlement in Galicia and Asturias, in northwestern Spain. In the late 5th and early 6th century AD fled a part of britonisch -Celtic population of Britain prior to the Anglo-Saxons. At about the same time also Armorica (Brittany ) in Gaul was settled by migrating Britons.

The little that is known about Britonia comes from ecclesiastical sources. The Briton settlements were recognized at the Council of Lugo in the year 569 as a separate diocese. Mailoc was used as the first bishop of Britonia in the second Council of Braga (572 ).
