Britta Thomsen

Britta Thomsen ( born January 23, 1954 in Aalborg ) is a Danish politician and Member of the European Parliament for the Danish Social Democrats. She sits on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.

Education and work

In 1979, Britta Thomsen a scholarship at the North African Institute in Uppsala. Afterwards she studied from 1979 to 1980 at the University of Lisbon Portuguese language and culture. At the University of Aarhus she studied from 1980 to 1983 Portuguese and Spanish. She received a master's degree at the University of Aarhus in history.

From 1983 to 1989 she worked as a teacher and organizer at a community college. She then worked as a consultant for, among others, the HK (Union of Commercial and Clerical Employees in Denmark), where she was responsible for international projects and surveys in the areas of tourism and services. For HK it was from 1994 to 2000 worked. Subsequently, she was in the period 2001-2004 Director and owner of a consulting company for labor market issues at European level.

Policy

Thomsen was involved in the drafting of the principle program of the Danish Social Democrats in 2000. From 2000 to 2004 she served on the executive committee. In 2004, she was first elected to the European Parliament. It has signed the Manifesto of the Spinelli Group.

On 14 October 2010 Britta Thomsen the Women of Europe Award was awarded for its commitment to equality for women and the fight against human trafficking in Europe.

MEP

In the period 2009-2014 is Thomsen member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, the Committee on Women and Gender Equality rights, as well as in the Delegation for relations with the Mercosur countries. As a deputy she's Subcommittee on Security and Defence, and in the Delegation to the Parliamentary Cooperation Committees EU -Kazakhstan, EU -Kyrgyzstan and EU-Uzbekistan and for relations with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
