Brittonic languages

The Britannic languages form a subgroup of the Celtic languages , of which they are among the p -Celtic.

Among them are the following languages:

  • Welsh ( Cymraeg) the Patagonian dialect, the Patagonian Welsh
  • Breton ( Brezhoneg )
  • Cornish ( Kernowek ), extinct in the 18th century, now revived

Some authors assume an original dialect continuum of the British languages , of which the West Britannic deviates stronger. So the Cornish Breton is closer than the Welsh. The Cumbrian extinct, however, was the Welsh possibly so close that it was formerly known as the old Welsh dialect. However, the source location for the Cumbrian is very thin, so that today over here no clear statement can be made.
