Geography

The community is located 5 km north of Eberswalde. The municipality consists of the living spaces Ferdinand field, forest house, frontier homes and colony Britz.

History

The place name derives from the Slavic word for birch breza. However, the existence of a Slavic settlement at this point could not yet be proven archaeologically. Britz, a Angersdorf margravial property was first mentioned in the deed of foundation of the Cistercian monastery Mariensee on the Pehlitzwerder in Parsteiner lake from September 2, 1258 in a document. There are preserved remains of that time established Romanesque church. 1277 came the village at that time 53 hooves by margravial donation to the monastery of Chorin. Structures

The present Protestant Britz village church dates from the 13th century and is one of the oldest churches in the Barnim. It was consecrated in 1263-1274 by Bishop Heinrich von Ostheeren.
