Brive-la-Gaillarde

Brive- la -Gaillarde ( Brive in Occitan ) is a town with 48 267 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in southwestern France in the Limousin region. It is the seat of a sub-prefecture of the department of Corrèze. Until 1919 the town of Brive said. The inhabitants call themselves Brivistes.

Geography

The city is located in Brive Basin on the eastern edge of the Aquitanian Basin and is drained by the river Corrèze, which opens into the Vézère at the local end.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 30 kilometers north-east, about 90 kilometers north of Limoges and Périgueux about 85 kilometers to the west.

Neighboring towns of Brive -la- Gaillarde, Ussac in the north, Malemort -sur -Corrèze in the northeast, Cosnac the southeast, Jugeals- Nazreth and Noailles in the south, Chasteaux and Lissac -sur -Couze in the southwest as well as Saint- Pantaleon -de- Larche in West.

The Lac du Causse is located about 10 kilometers southwest of the city.

History

Brive- la -Gaillarde was in Alterum Briva Curretia and was a city of Lemoviken. Here 584 Gundowald was elected king of Aquitaine.

Economy and infrastructure

Economically, the agglomeration of Brive is the second most important location to Limoges in the Limousin region. Here are numerous companies in the food and electronics industry plants and branches. Furthermore, the city is the seat of the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Briver agglomeration.

Traffic
